Which means cancelled and delayed trains, icy footpaths and being snowed in at home for two days! Not such a bad thing seeing as they were work days ;) The weather man had been predicting snow for over a week with none in sight, so when they said we would get heavy snow overnight I of course didn't believe them. Oh how wrong I was, a good 10inches or so fell over the next day or two as it snowed constantly. Our grocery delivery truck couldn't get through and we couldn't go anywhere in the car as it was snowed in, so it was a trek to the supermarket on foot to stock up on some food. I was surprised to see people buying up like the world was ending! We were lucky to get one of the last loaves of bread and cartons of eggs, some milk and some frozen goodies as everyone had trolley loads of food and were buying up big!<br /><br />A few days later the snow began to melt and the slush ran away and things got back to normal, until last night. Got home and we had a little dusting of snow, but woke up this morning thinking it felt very bright only to open the windows and see a good 4 or 5 inches of snow in the backyard. Our cheeky neighbourhood foxes were out and about looking for food and were up to their knees in the snow. We headed out for a walk today as cabin fever had set in and this is what we found!<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TQ1Q-31gNOI/AAAAAAAAAq8/eKVULW-9yFY/s1600/010.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; A spot of Christmas shopping and a wander along Oxford Street later and we arrived at the Langham for high tea. Departed a while later feeling ill (but happy!) from all the food and sugar!<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TQ1Nx-IM4QI/AAAAAAAAApU/RttsIO7d0bg/s1600/IMG_8424.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; So we headed into the fields and forage for blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, pumpkins, plums and cauliflower.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TKoq4MOjrHI/AAAAAAAAAj8/1sxy-wtnjsc/s1600/IMG_8403.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; We are about to move again into our own 2 bed flat...ahhhh can't wait for the privacy and space of not living in a share house. </li><li>Travelled to some placed in Europe neither of us have been before.</li><li>Travelled to parts of England I've never seen.</li><li>Done the channel crossing on a Ferry.</li><li>Been to the theatre several times. </li><li>Made friends and reconnected with old ones. </li><li>Learnt that getting lost in London is part of the fun and not to panic.</li><li>Finally adjusted to the way of the tube....ie. head down, earphones in, steel yourself for the squashed journey. </li><li>Kept my accent, no duvet, flip flops and crisps for me, it's still doona, thongs and chips :)</li><li>Discovered some of the best places to shop, although like most people I suppose, the perfect pair of jeans still eludes me. </li><li>Found "our" restaurant, a lovely little Korean place we love to go.</li><li>Learnt that the Brits don't do coffee like the Aussies....you need to ask for an extra shot or it tastes like hot milk!</li><li>Learnt to appreciate the small things, like sitting in the park and reading a book, because quiet time and green space is rare. </li><li>And many many more....!</li></ul><p>I'm quite proud of myself for making it through the first year relatively unscathed. It was apparently the coldest winter on record and for someone who doesn't like the cold that was a big achievement on it's own. Although the British culture is so similar to Australia, there are also many differences which you don't appreciate until you live here. So there have been some tough days in there, I won't lie, I have missed my friends, family and the space and way of life Australia has to offer. But then I just have to walk out of the building at work and see the London Eye peeking over Westminster Abbey at the end of the road, or walk through St James's Park and spy Buckingham Palace and I realise that London too has so much and we haven't yet scratched the surface. </p>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-54958469852990393072010-08-08T16:39:00.002+01:002010-08-08T16:55:16.333+01:00Exploring Soho....We have done a bit of travelling outside of London and in Europe since we arrived so we decided this weekend to do a bit of exploring in this exciting city we live in. Friday night we met an old colleague of mine for drinks and dinner and a bit of a gossip. We headed to Souk Bazaar for dinner and it comes highly recommended, lovely Moroccan food, too much for us to eat!<br /><br />Watching a bit of TV the other night we came across Top Gear with Jeff Goldblum as the guest of the week talking about his play, Prisoner of Second Avenue, looked at each other and thought, why not! That's the wonderful thing about living in London! So we booked some cheap theatre tickets and headed out yesterday to see the play at the Vaudeville and explore Soho afterwards.<br /><br />The play was very good, Jeff Goldblum is perfectly cast as a quirky, eccentric New Yorker who has a nervous breakdown.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7QkwSBjdI/AAAAAAAAAfM/txt0O4-KLcE/s1600/IMG_9716.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5503065124547694034" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7QkwSBjdI/AAAAAAAAAfM/txt0O4-KLcE/s320/IMG_9716.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7QkdfSYvI/AAAAAAAAAfE/1OgJItcQ_i8/s1600/IMG_8477.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5503065119503049458" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7QkdfSYvI/AAAAAAAAAfE/1OgJItcQ_i8/s320/IMG_8477.jpg" /></a> Then it was off for a wander around rainy Soho for some window shopping and food. Despite it being "summer" here, it was about 19 and rained all afternoon. A few people lately have recommended Cha Cha Moon in Kingly Court near Carnaby St so thought we'd check it out. It's by the same people who came up with the Wagamama concept, but I have to say I enjoyed the food far more. Cheap, full of flavour and lovely Malaysian style dishes which seem to be hard to come by in London (unless I'm looking in the wrong places!). </div><div><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7QkOvQ-8I/AAAAAAAAAe8/6-80J5jh1tc/s1600/IMG_0732.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5503065115543534530" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7QkOvQ-8I/AAAAAAAAAe8/6-80J5jh1tc/s320/IMG_0732.jpg" /></a> We followed this up with another romantic wander in the rain under the umbrella and came across SNOG, a frozen yoghurt place that does natural, green tea or chocolate yoghurt with toppings of your choice (photo of the ceiling in SNOG). The chocolate with fresh raspberries was delicious! And fat free :)<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7Qj-8UFLI/AAAAAAAAAe0/Vz31yQHgG3A/s1600/IMG_5048.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5503065111303296178" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TF7Qj-8UFLI/AAAAAAAAAe0/Vz31yQHgG3A/s320/IMG_5048.jpg" /></a> Heading home through Earl's Court we saw this woman dodging the crowds with what looked like all of her possessions, piled up with suitcases and the two dogs! And I think it's a struggle getting on the tube in the mornings with just myself, how she managed I'll never know!<br /><div></div></div></div></div>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-86088214015276340092010-07-30T20:07:00.002+01:002010-08-08T16:38:35.317+01:00Mmmm cupcakes!<img style="WIDTH: 505px; HEIGHT: 315px" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TFMi7HA3ybI/AAAAAAAAAew/KYrbAUCOF_0/img_3.jpg" width="640" height="332" /><br />Following dinner at a lovely polish place in South Kensington tonight I couldn't resist stopping in at Hummingbird Bakery for some yummy cupcakes. After my initial disappointment at missing out on a red velvet, I settled for a black bottom which was very tasty! Serious chocolate cake with a cheesecake centre and soft buttercream icing (!!!). James was also happy with his usual...anything with blue icing!Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-36288576422630108342010-07-24T16:25:00.002+01:002010-07-25T17:02:45.774+01:00More breakfast!<img style="WIDTH: 388px; HEIGHT: 534px" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TEsFzh8j0RI/AAAAAAAAAes/bHxJChkFXeU/img_2.jpg" width="640" height="730" /><br />Discovered a lovely little cafe in Wandsworth called The Pantry and headed there for breakfast this morning. However, after the embarrassing 4-1 loss against Germany last weekend, the Brits have suddenly begun to pretend there is no such thing as football. World Cup? What World Cup? The flags have been slowly disappearing and people are losing interest in who's going through to the next round. We headed to the pub last week to watch the game and there were lots of unhappy campers afterwards.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43XFXwKfI/AAAAAAAAAeY/KZwu4V-0k5I/s1600/083.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489385865529534962" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43XFXwKfI/AAAAAAAAAeY/KZwu4V-0k5I/s320/083.JPG" /></a><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43WsOK2sI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/yLq4fZbk8IU/s1600/086.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489385858778454722" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43WsOK2sI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/yLq4fZbk8IU/s320/086.JPG" /></a> The boys debriefing afterwards. Henman Hill was jam packed as the Andy Murray match was in its final set.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43VOPD9PI/AAAAAAAAAeA/SM4pZSk9g0I/s1600/091.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489385833549264114" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43VOPD9PI/AAAAAAAAAeA/SM4pZSk9g0I/s320/091.JPG" /></a> The obligatory Wimbledon strawberries and cream.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43U0zp_hI/AAAAAAAAAd4/MWngV9U1o70/s1600/099.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489385826723429906" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC43U0zp_hI/AAAAAAAAAd4/MWngV9U1o70/s320/099.JPG" /></a> We managed to score some centre court ticket returns for £5 to watch the women's doubles quarter finals before heading home for a glass of champagne to round off the evening :)<br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-52936381075998736802010-07-02T19:23:00.005+01:002010-07-02T19:56:17.372+01:00Calais and Brugges - Courtesy of Easyjet!About a month ago we were due to fly to Amsterdam for the weekend, but our lovely friends at easyjet cancelled our flight a few hours before we were due to go, with no alternatives. Needless to say I spent a little while sulking....okay the whole day! But I managed to get not only a full refund but compensation of 250 euros each for the short notice (thanks European Union directive!). So to make up for it we booked a night at a fabulous B&B at a little village outside Calais called Wierre Effroy and took the ferry over. Upon discovering there wasn't much around the village or Calais itself we checked out the map of France and Belgium and realised Brugge was only a couple of hours drive away...needless to say we headed off to the land of chocolate!<br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC4yq4pROAI/AAAAAAAAAdw/jZd9O873wLU/s1600/082.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489380708152588290" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/TC4yq4pROAI/AAAAAAAAAdw/jZd9O873wLU/s320/082.JPG" /></a> The spoils of our trip, cheese and chocolate galore!! Unfortunately I spent most of it being sick. What started with a sore throat at Gatwick ended up with the person next to me on the flight from Dubai to Perth looking horrified for 11 hrs at the girl next to him vomiting the whole way! A visit to the doctor the next day resulted in a diagnosis of tonsillitis and a prescription for some strong antibiotics. Who knew you could get tonsillitis 20 years after you'd had your tonsils out??? (apparently remnants of them left...pesky things). So I had to cancel some plans I had just because I ran out of time after spending the first 4 days or so in bed. But I did manage to get some sun and catch up with family, and shop. I returned to a few days of sunshine in London (it even managed 30 degrees on Monday!) but we are back to rain and chilly nights this week. Bring on summer.<br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S_6zyU6kQvI/AAAAAAAAAb4/bzxiEyJGMTU/s1600/011.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476011874118288114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S_6zyU6kQvI/AAAAAAAAAb4/bzxiEyJGMTU/s320/011.JPG" border="0" /></a>Mum and Dad at breakfast on the beach.</div><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S_6zx0lHLqI/AAAAAAAAAbw/A9Go46YcU70/s1600/017.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476011865438367394" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S_6zx0lHLqI/AAAAAAAAAbw/A9Go46YcU70/s320/017.JPG" border="0" /></a> My old favourite: eggs benedict and a latte. The daffodils and tulips are out in force and I was excited on the weekend to have a day of 18 degrees.....yes 18. And yes it did actually feel warm after such a long, cold winter. We headed to North London to check out Hampstead Heath, stopping at Goodge St along the way to pick up some picnic supplies. It is a big call, but had THE BEST sandwich and muffin I have ever had. A little italian deli made a rocket, mozzarella, sun dried tomato and parma ham ciabatta for us with so much flavour it was amazing. And we found a place called Candy Cakes which did iced muffins. The blueberry cheesecake with raspberry icing was to die for!!! Mmmmm. </div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S8y5VCU7r-I/AAAAAAAAAbA/SSmSYOnUmf8/s1600/160.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S8y5VCU7r-I/AAAAAAAAAbA/SSmSYOnUmf8/s320/160.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461944219146629090" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">The array of muffins at Candy Cakes. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S8y5UkJYUZI/AAAAAAAAAa4/t-dtEuz5LyA/s1600/161.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S8y5UkJYUZI/AAAAAAAAAa4/t-dtEuz5LyA/s320/161.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461944211045110162" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Our lovely sandwich, olives and organic cider. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S8y5UWvZNdI/AAAAAAAAAaw/Ywl49z-4S1Q/s1600/162.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S8y5UWvZNdI/AAAAAAAAAaw/Ywl49z-4S1Q/s320/162.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461944207446455762" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">A gorgeous spring day at Hampstead Heath. Last Friday's even was all about games. Unfortunately, it seems all of the young people in London had the same idea meaning it was packed and big queues for all of the games/activities. So we took a wander around the museum and had hot chocolate to follow.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzPJ4ZMxI/AAAAAAAAAYg/3brbk1efB2k/s1600/094.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454900646607663890" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzPJ4ZMxI/AAAAAAAAAYg/3brbk1efB2k/s320/094.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzOoO7UuI/AAAAAAAAAYY/7HXNbEyeWMU/s1600/090.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454900637575369442" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzOoO7UuI/AAAAAAAAAYY/7HXNbEyeWMU/s320/090.JPG" /></a><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzN56t-eI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/4As2MscAlVQ/s1600/088.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454900625142577634" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzN56t-eI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/4As2MscAlVQ/s320/088.JPG" /></a> Giant game of pass the parcel.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzNbb2QeI/AAAAAAAAAYI/H5KQcxyEqYk/s1600/086.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454900616960033250" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OzNbb2QeI/AAAAAAAAAYI/H5KQcxyEqYk/s320/086.JPG" /></a> Fabulous glass sculpture in the lobby. <div></div></div></div></div>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-91112460420170587312010-03-31T21:26:00.002+01:002010-03-31T21:35:24.510+01:00My Sport Relief Mile (plus two more!)A friend and I decided many weeks ago to do the Sport Relief mile and as we registered thought....why do one mile when we can do three? It seemed like a good idea at the time! But for our first foray into running events we didn't do too badly, 3 miles in 35 mins. And had some fun and raised some ££'s doing it :)<br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxJ3H9lRI/AAAAAAAAAYA/qZDXQNZlx2c/s1600/076.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454898356650087698" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxJ3H9lRI/AAAAAAAAAYA/qZDXQNZlx2c/s200/076.JPG" /></a> Victoria Embankment, start of the event. </div><div align="center"><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxJIxvd4I/AAAAAAAAAX4/wJ7n_0ctSNM/s1600/077.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454898344208856962" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxJIxvd4I/AAAAAAAAAX4/wJ7n_0ctSNM/s200/077.JPG" /></a> At the beginning....figuring out how to dodge the people in costumes (including Scooby and the gang, lots of tutus, a few space hoppers, lots of superheroes and I think I may have seen a Batman or two),<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxIdSN4WI/AAAAAAAAAXw/xHcwfwRGGc8/s1600/079.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454898332533907810" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxIdSN4WI/AAAAAAAAAXw/xHcwfwRGGc8/s200/079.JPG" /></a> Scrappy Doo and his dad, so cute!<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxHlGTb8I/AAAAAAAAAXo/3XH_FT4braA/s1600/084.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454898317451554754" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OxHlGTb8I/AAAAAAAAAXo/3XH_FT4braA/s200/084.JPG" /></a></div></div><br /></div>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-72901332833506985232010-03-31T21:13:00.003+01:002010-03-31T21:25:12.950+01:00Search for the Perfect Brunch Spot....is over! Went to brunch with my brother and his partner in Fulham at my new favourite place. It's called Del'Aziz (<a href="http://www.delaziz.co.uk/">www.delaziz.co.uk</a>). They have a few branches around London and come highly recommended. I had lovely salmon fishcakes and salad, Grant had eggs benedict and Andrew a full breakfast. The eggs benedict looked fantastic and must go back to try it, finally somewhere that knows it should be the staple part of a brunch menu! They do middle eastern/meditteranean food but do a standard brunch menu that's lovely as well as selling tagines, mugs, deli food and spices etc. And as you can see, the cakes are fab!!!<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OupZp7-tI/AAAAAAAAAXg/iaqrsQZ_hkI/s1600/074.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454895599960455890" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OupZp7-tI/AAAAAAAAAXg/iaqrsQZ_hkI/s200/074.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7Ouo563kYI/AAAAAAAAAXY/nV3WyDH7I2Y/s1600/072.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454895591441535362" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7Ouo563kYI/AAAAAAAAAXY/nV3WyDH7I2Y/s200/072.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OuoEkleVI/AAAAAAAAAXQ/8RZGs8C7Ayc/s1600/071.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454895577120995666" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OuoEkleVI/AAAAAAAAAXQ/8RZGs8C7Ayc/s200/071.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OunvyWGzI/AAAAAAAAAXI/XHBToDEudsI/s1600/070.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454895571541564210" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OunvyWGzI/AAAAAAAAAXI/XHBToDEudsI/s200/070.JPG" /></a> </div></div></div>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-259388965558851041.post-37091521822079321182010-03-31T20:41:00.004+01:002010-03-31T21:10:28.563+01:00Munchen: Beer, Sausages and Snow.A couple of weekends ago we headed to Munich for a couple of days (cheap flights, thanks easyjet!). James has always wanted to visit Dachau as his grandfather was held there as a POW so thought we would take the opportunity to hang out in Munich as well.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoD3Y61tI/AAAAAAAAAXA/CKSFpufZLKQ/s1600/001.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454888358037346002" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoD3Y61tI/AAAAAAAAAXA/CKSFpufZLKQ/s200/001.JPG" /></a> The first night we did the obligatory visit to the Hofbrauhaus, the biggest beer hall in Munich. Given the stories we've heard about Oktoberfest we assumed it would be full of tourists like us but we were pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be full of locals and we ended up sitting across from a a guy from Boston who lives there and filled us in. There are signs above many of the tables that indicate it's reserved on certain nights, and apparently you either have to have been part of the family for too many years to count or be close enough to be invited in order to sit on those tables. The atmosphere was great, incredibly festive with a band, families and groups having a good time, and drinking copious amounts of beer from 1L steins!<br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoDPqfebI/AAAAAAAAAW4/s8XLgtEhxZs/s1600/002.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454888347373631922" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoDPqfebI/AAAAAAAAAW4/s8XLgtEhxZs/s200/002.JPG" /></a> Before I learnt how to hold it properly....it's very heavy!!<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoCHR3M4I/AAAAAAAAAWw/GEv6Ze2qB0k/s1600/010.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454888327942976386" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoCHR3M4I/AAAAAAAAAWw/GEv6Ze2qB0k/s200/010.JPG" /></a> The locals having fun.<br /><br /><div align="left"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoBlOpnyI/AAAAAAAAAWo/I_1UjrIS6Nc/s1600/021.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454888318802698018" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoBlOpnyI/AAAAAAAAAWo/I_1UjrIS6Nc/s200/021.JPG" /></a> The next morning we ventured out into the cold, it had been snowing the day before so we layered up and went exploring.<br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoBIZLxMI/AAAAAAAAAWg/kWafpzM-Pko/s1600/024.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454888311062250690" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OoBIZLxMI/AAAAAAAAAWg/kWafpzM-Pko/s200/024.JPG" /></a> The S-Bahn station near our hotel.<br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OnM98s-5I/AAAAAAAAAWY/G2kg8i0pLZc/s1600/026.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454887414905240466" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OnM98s-5I/AAAAAAAAAWY/G2kg8i0pLZc/s200/026.JPG" /></a> Dachau - I felt it was very disrespectful to take any photos inside the Memorial Site or any of the buildings in the camp itself so this is the sign out the front. The English menu seemed a little pricey so we decided to take a punt and try to interpret the German menu, with fantastic results! The place was a little taverna with good beer and the kind of food your grandmother would cook if she was German. I had this lovely braised beef with knodles (potato and bread dumplings). Delish!!<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OnKwcsWlI/AAAAAAAAAV4/Lb-vbz92L0Y/s1600/048.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454887376921582162" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OnKwcsWlI/AAAAAAAAAV4/Lb-vbz92L0Y/s200/048.JPG" /></a> Fantastic store we found with every kind of dried fruit and chocolate you could imagine.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OmXYIdeQI/AAAAAAAAAVw/ZsXwgvmoaTI/s1600/049.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454886494220941570" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OmXYIdeQI/AAAAAAAAAVw/ZsXwgvmoaTI/s200/049.JPG" /></a> We opened the hotel room curtains on the last day and saw snow, snow and more snow! </div><div><br /></div><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OmWmti-EI/AAAAAAAAAVo/-taHgLMQOPc/s1600/050.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454886480954718274" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__nQdGtT5KBs/S7OmWmti-EI/AAAAAAAAAVo/-taHgLMQOPc/s200/050.JPG" /></a> Halfway to the bakery where we had breakfast we were already covered in snow which was hitting us straight in the face. No big crowds, very friendly people, large roomy trains and clean air. Although I imagine Oktoberfest time is a completely different affair!<br /><div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><br /></div>Narellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17872147695976254623noreply@blogger.com0
